Olympic Day, Olympic Values and Sport for All Abilities

Olympic Day was Monday June 23, taking place this year during the World Cup, which generates a great deal of energy and excitement for the power of sport around the world. It feels that there is growing momentum for the role that sport has to contribute to educational and development outcomes. It feels that there is a growing awareness and understanding that sport can truly contribute to humankind on and off the field.

I Can Do It, You Can Do It! Webinar Series

The President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition is excited to announce a new webinar series on I Can Do It, You Can Do It! (ICDI), a mentoring model that promotes regular physical activity and healthy eating behaviors for children and adults with disabilities! Webinars will cover a range of topics to help establish ICDI in your own school or community. All ICDI program materials are free to stakeholders, and can be accessed by emailing

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie Signs Historic Legislation Encouraging Special Olympics Unified Sports Programming in all School Districts

Special Olympics made history when the State of New Jersey Senate Education Committee passed legislation that school districts must make an effort to ensure that students with disabilities have opportunities to participate in sports equal to those of other students through Special Olympics Unified Sports® programs.

CDC Vital Signs: Adults with Disabilities Physical Activity is for Everybody

Working age adults with disabilities who do not get any aerobic physical activity are 50 percent more likely than their active peers to have a chronic disease such as cancer, diabetes, stroke, or heart disease, according to a Vital Signs report released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Adapt2Achieve Regional Educational Conference

Disabled Sports USA (DSUSA) through the Adapt2Achieve (A2A) Program, is offering a training conference hosted at Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham, Alabama. This conference will focus on training in nonprofit administrative topics and the sport of track and field. In addition to engaging presentations, there will be numerous opportunities for networking and sharing of best practices.

AXIS Dance Company’s tradition of staging challenging and thought provoking work continues in its upcoming 2014 season, with an historic restaging of Yvonne Rainer’s iconic Trio A, the debut of Divide from Guest Artistic Director Marc Brew, and a solo performance of his highly acclaimed 2008 piece, Remember When, as well as the premiere of Alex Ketley’s much-anticipated film about AXIS, The Gift (of Impermanence).
