Sprite Spark Parks Project to Invest $2 Million to Construct, Refurbish and Refresh More Than 150 Neighborhood Parks, Athletic Fields, Playgrounds and Basketball Courts in 2011

February 28, 2011

Sprite will invest approximately $2 million into building or revamping more than 150 basketball courts, community spaces, playgrounds and athletic fields in at least 40 American cities throughout 2011. The program tips off with a chance for people to nominate through April 8 their local basketball court for renovation. At least 21 courts will receive funding in 2011 for items such as new rims, backboards, blacktop surfaces and art installations created by local artists to inspire play.

Active vs Passive Play and Engagment for Children with Disabilities

All children need to actively engage in play and social activities to develop skills and communication. Many children with developmental delays are only physically present during these early childhood events. Physical presence isn't enough to ensure active participation and learning, and it can have a negative impact on the relationships between child and caregiver.

This presentation will explore and define active vs passive participation, especially in play and communication.
