KaBOOM! and Dr. Pepper Snapple Group Invite Grant Applications for Let's Play Playground Construction Grants

KaBOOM! and funding partner Dr. Pepper Snapple Group are offering Let's Play Playground Construction Grants of $15,000 to qualifying organizations using the KaBOOM! community-build model.

The applicant must be a U.S.-based nonprofit organization or governmental subdivision, and must own the land on which the playground will be built or possess a long-term lease and obtain permission from the land owner.

The playground project cannot be supported through any other KaBOOM! funding.

The playground project must include a total equipment purchase of a minimum of $24,000 and a maximum of $40,000. The award can only be used towards the purchase of playground equipment from a KaBOOM! preferred vendor. The project must be completed within a year of receiving the award.

Grantees will plan their project and share best practices and challenges through the KaBOOM! Web site. The applicant must create an online KaBOOM! Project Planner page in order to access and complete the grant application.

Tarjan Center at UCLA, Mitsubishi Electric, and Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship

Teachers Who Include Students with Disabilities in Student Run Businesses

The Tarjan Center at the University of California Los Angeles, a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, has partnered with the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation and Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) to support inclusive, student-run businesses. The Tarjan Center will provide small grants to help teachers include students with and without disabilities in socially responsible student-run businesses. The teachers/schools selected will help uncover best practices for including all students in entrepreneur leadership activities. Awardees will receive up to $2500 per year (for two years) along with a video camera, and other promotional materials. All businesses must include students with and without disabilities.

Gates Foundation Grant Opportunities - New Grand Challenges Explorations Topics

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is now accepting grant proposals for Round 8 of Grand Challenges Explorations, an initiative to encourage innovative and unconventional global health and development solutions. Applicants can be at any experience level; in any discipline; and from any organization, including colleges and universities, government laboratories, research institutions, non-profit organizations and for profit companies.

Grant proposals are being accepted online until November 17, 2011 on the following topics:

Challenge Alaska

Description: 

Challenge Alaska provides a variety of adaptive sports and therapeutic recreation activities, programs and services for people with disabilities including but not limited to:

  • Paralympic Sport Alaska which includes a school based program, sled hockey, wheelchair basketball, archery, power soccer, wheelchair soccer
  • Paralympic Military Programing
  • In hospital Therapeutic Recreation
  • Adult Book Club for individuals with intellectual disabilities
  • Extended week Kayak trips, camping trips, canoe trips
  • Adaptive Ski and Snowboard School including disabled Ski Team
  • Cooking group, Art classes, Craft classes
  • Hockey, Basketball, Baseball, Archery for individuals with developmental disabilities

Walmart State Giving Program

Through this program, the Wal-Mart Foundation will award grants at the state and regional level to support unmet needs that are not directly addressed by any of their current programs.

The Foundation has adopted the following areas of focus: Education, Job Skills Training, Environmental Sustainability and Health.

The area of Education includes a program or initiative that addresses the educational needs of under-served young people ages 12-30.

The area of Job Skills Training includes a program or initiative that provides professional training, counseling and support services to help people improve their work-related skills.

The area of Health includes a program or initiative that works to improve access to healthcare and to promote healthy lifestyles.

The area of Environmental Sustainability includes a program or initiative that is designed to help people become more personably sustainable or to help support the environment.
