Funding for 2012 Overnight Winter Adventure Camps for Teens with Disabilities in Military Families

October 21, 2011

A wonderful program to support a teen with a disability whose parent(s) are serving in the military.  Please share this information widely as there is support for airfare included in the opportunity.

Northeast Passage is offering two Winter Adventure Camps in January 2012 for teens with disabilities (both developmental/cognitive and physical) who have a parent serving in the military. We received a grant for these camps in collaboration with the University of New Hampshire’s Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development Programs.

The camps take place in the mountains of New Hampshire and will be filled with exposure to outdoor winter sports and recreational opportunities. There is transportation assistance available, including airfare, so we’d love to get the word out around the country.

2012 World Sport Chicago Scholarship Program

October 19, 2011

World Sport Chicago is the living legacy of Chicago’s 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Bid, dedicated to supporting the athletic and academic dreams of Chicago’s youth. The WSC Scholars Program was created to help student-athletes prepare for and succeed in college.

Students who will be high school juniors in the Fall of 2011, live and study in Chicago and have participated in an eligible Summer Olympic/Paralympic sport for two seasons in the past three years are eligible for the 2012 WSC Scholarship. Athletes of all levels are encouraged to apply. Commitment to the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect on the playing field, in school and in the community will be considered during the evaluation process.

Up to fifty students will be chosen to become WSC Scholars and participate in a Kaplan ACT tutoring and Chicago Scholars mentoring program that encourages academic and personal success during the college application process beginning second semester of their junior year and continuing throughout senior year. WSC Scholars will also be eligible to compete for one of ten renewable college scholarships worth up to $5,000 annually ($20,000 total), supported by WSC and Chicago donors.

The deadline for the 2012 World Sport Chicago Scholarship is about a month away!  Please encourage interested and eligible students to apply by November 16, 2011! Applications are available at www.wscscholars.org!

The 2012 WSC Scholars will receive:
