James H. Rimmer

James H. Rimmer, Ph.D, is a Professor in the School of Health Professions and the first Lakeshore Foundation Endowed Chair in Health Promotion and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He currently serves as director of the UAB-Lakeshore Foundation Research Collaborative and Director of the National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability. For the past 30 years he has been developing and directing health promotion programs for people with disabilities aimed at reducing obesity, increasing physical activity and improving nutrition in youths, adults and seniors with disabilities. His research and programmatic interests explore the use of new and emergent technologies in developing behavioral and environmental strategies to promote beneficial physical activity and healthful weight management in youths and adults with disabilities. He has been director of the National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability since 1999 and was one of 13 members of the Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee that was commissioned to establish national U.S. guidelines in physical activity in 2008. He is an avid exerciser who enjoys nature and being outdoors with his wife and dog.
