Description:
Race to Walk is devoted to providing a comprehensive, post-acute program for individuals with spinal cord injuries and other related neurological disorders. Specializing in exercise-based training with state-of-the-art equipment, the organization provides strategic training techniques in a safe, supportive environment. The ultimate goal is to assist each client towards their personal goal. Race to Walk offers one on one personal training with nationally certified trainers who target functioning as well as non-functioning areas of the body. Services offered include open gym access to 6000 sq. ft. of accessible equipment and a functional electrical stimulation bike as well as family support, community education and assistance with fundraising. Nationally certified trainers design individualized programs to achieve optimum health and fitness for each participant. Exercises are implemented to build on existing level of function and encourage motor responses in previously thought non functioning muscles. The training system is designed to incrementally re-educate the damaged nervous system with the goal of regained movement, increased independence, and ultimately improving the functionality of those living with paralysis.
