Description:
The YMCA of Florida’s First Coast has been a leader in providing faith-based programs and services to meet the health, wellness, and spiritual needs of families and individuals since 1909. Today, the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast includes 26 adult and family locations, over 1,500 dedicated staff, and thousands of dedicated volunteers. Current program offerings include childcare, aquatics, group exercise classes, individualized wellness training sessions, health screenings, resident and day camps, youth and adult sports, special events, and family outings. Through a partnership with Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast helps meet the need for preventive and Adaptive Sports programs throughout the region. In addition to Adaptive Sports programming, the Daystar Program is a pre-vocational, recreational and rehabilitative day treatment program for adults with disabilities in Clay County. Daystar II opened in the fall of 2008. The YMCA’s mission “to put Christian principles into practice by building a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all” ensures equal access to programming. The YMCA supports making services accessible to everyone in the community regardless of economic status, geography or any other barrier that exists. The YMCA believes in helping families discover the resources to raise children to be productive adults. The YMCA believes an investment in children is an investment in the future. Research shows the more development opportunities young people experience in their daily lives, the more likely they are to engage in positive, thriving behaviors, such as succeeding in school, helping others, and maintaining good health. Physical activity for all ages is an important part of the Y experience – but only one part. Balanced Health means meeting people where they are—whether at work, church or in the community. The third goal is to enable balanced health for every man, woman and child across the First Coast.
