Children's Hospital, Boston

Brief Description of Your Organization's Activities::
Children's Hospital, Boston has developed a project which will help children and youth with disabilities find a supportive, inclusive environment for recreation.  We are collaborating with the Greater Boston YMCAs and we will be providing training for those facilities. We will also use trained community volunteers to help the children with their exercise.

Goals are to help children receive more physical activity in an inclusive environment, to increase the participating children's fitness level, to improve children's overall quality of life by providing them with more physical and social activities, and to observe changes in (YMCA staff) attitudes towards inclusion and knowledge of disabilities. Another goal of this project is to be able to prove that such a project is feasible and can be replicated in other communities across the nation. We are also actively seeking to include members of typically underserved communities, such as immigrants and ethnically diverse populations.
